Today this old beauty got a thorough coating with Old English dark wood scratch cover.
A few things I’ve found to be helpful in caring for old furniture pieces like this.... I first put on disposable gloves because the scratch cover is messy and stains my hands.
I dip a used fabric softener sheet in a little bowl I’ve squirted some of liquid into and a little at a time in small sections till the whole piece is covered. I use an old toothbrush to get in nooks and crannies only getting a tiny bit at a time so it won’t splatter.
An old teeshirt rag works perfectly to buff an area at a time and removes any excess scratch cover liquid.
You may want to place a drop cloth under the area your working to catch any drips. IT IS MESSY AND STAINS!
SWIPE ➡️➡️ this lovely item used to belong to my dad, it is a Metronome 🎵 my mum was cleaning out a lot of this when I was over visiting over the break and this was one of them - I used to love this so much when I was a child and my dad was alive so I had to have it in my home 😍 but it being in storage it did get a little dusty and dirty so with the help of @pledge wood polish on a dusting cloth I was able to clean it up to as close to brand new as possible 😍 I sprayed the polish straight onto the cloth as not to soak the wood as it is quite delicate. I would love to find out what type of metal the plaque on the front is made out of to be able to clean it up as well - has anyone any idea how to tell what metal it is? 🤔
