Case Study Villa •
A skylight over the shower in the master suite gives a focused view of the sky, referencing the Skyspaces of the installation artist James Turrell.
The project encompasses a series of new pavilions that loosely enclose an original Victorian villa. Treated as a found object, perceptions of the original building are framed by the new interventions, which reference its scale, proportion and materials. The pavilions are articulated as autonomous rectilinear sculptural volumes, but in turn frame views back to the villa, refocusing attention on its form and details. The primary claddings of the new buildings—timber shingles and vertical slats—draw attention to the subordinate use of the same materials in the original villa, there utilized only on the front gable end and window shading, and on the sub-floor skirt respectively. The exterior spaces to the sides and front and back of the property are divided into room-sized courtyards by the new building volumes and the swimming pool, treated as another architectural volume—lending exterior spaces the quality of interiors, and vice versa. #williamtozerassociates#modern#architecture#design@williamtozerassociates #auckland#nzia #photography by @carme.aguayo #shower#glassroof#skylight#rooflight#tiles#bathroom#mirror

The 3 Peaks. We created a series of pitched roofs in order to consolidate the existing extensions and to give the property a clear identity. The main pitched roof is topped by a glazed pyramid which floods the open-plan Kitchen with natural light throughout the day. A new terrace and pergola in the rear garden also helped to tie in the garden with the new extension.
Top light is a joy and delight. I recently added three roof lights to my home. This is not my home. What a wonderful example of a top lit studio. Note the lantern is blind to the left of this image, the South. #studio#toplight#rooflight#northlight#sunlight#sun
This project involved the demolition of a mews house in London, excavation of a basement below the footprint of the house to form a large multi use room to include a projector and media installation, “secret” bathroom, extensive joinery plus a 4m wide sliding rooflight. The two storey house was then rebuilt above, with two bedrooms and bathrooms and open plan kitchen, dining and living spaces. #londonbasement#rooflight#lightwell#brightbasement
Mardome Reflex is a glazing only unit designed specifically for refurbishment projects where the glazing only needs to be replaced. Available in double or triple skin and clear, opal, bronze or textured glazing. #rooflight#refurbishment#polycarbonate

Here's some photos of a small, but perfectly formed extension we built in South West Birmingham. The clients wanted an extension that allowed light to flood in and space for a stylish kitchen - a contemporary look and feel to their Victorian property. The architect designed an extension way out of budget, so we stepped in and came up with a design that delivered space, light and even incorporated a breakfast bar that they use for work and eating. A full height panoramic glazed panel, large roof light and window allows the light to bounce around the room. The redesign and cost engineering of ideas delivered the dream - and more, within budget. We love the external black masonry paint on the extension which delivers an urban New York style look which works perfectly for this location. We also love the kitchen which our in-house designers came up with - installed to perfection by us too! Our 360-degree service!

“We realise the importance of light, when we see darkness” @malala
We brightened up an extension in #bramhall a little while back, with a pair of flat self cleaning skylights. These low-maintenance skylights save you the worry of someone climbing all over your roof to wash them every couple of weeks, needing much less maintenance thanks to the coated glass 😎 Message us for a quote!
Just had some new roof lights fitted into my house!
I get the feeling this is going to be a good selfie spot! 💪😁🤳

Old and new meet in this high-ceilinged @hannahgooch.studio extension, where traditional shaker style cabinetry is juxtaposed with more contemporary elements in a frameless glass skylight. 📸 @annastathakiphoto
Timber Frame Two, recently completed for our superclients Marcus and Amanda. This is version 2.0 of our Timber Frame Extension which we did for them in 2015. They loved it so much they wanted to take it with them when they moved house - we couldn’t quite do that, but we revisited the original design and created a new one.
