Went to see the Artivism Exhibition, “Walls Of Demand”; A very powerful exhibition marking 1 year since the Parkland shooting, featuring artwork from Manny Oliver – the father of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School (MSD) shooting victim Joaquin “Guac” Oliver – as well as pieces from Montgomery County students and artist Margi Weir. If you live in DC, go see it. #Artivism#StopGunViolence#Parklandshooting#Policy&Change
I want every girl to know that womanhood is a forever process. And even though we look like we got it together, we make a choice every day to put on our grown woman pants. Confidence isn’t always inherit, but often times for me it’s a decision—an awkward practice of claiming my highest self. Doesn’t make me less of a woman or less perfect. Makes me transparent and vulnerable, the virtues that are the foundations of our manifestations. Shoutouts to all the late bloomers | foto: @victoriagravel

This is nothing knew - we’ve known this for a long time. But it’s important for research to explicitly point to which elements of media reports have the greatest impact on suicidality. This study looked at 13 major Toronto publications and tracked suicide deaths in Toronto over the week immediately following the publication of the suicide story. The factors in the story that were found to be most associated with increased suicides were statements regarding: the inevitability of suicide, asphyxia without vehicular support, suicide pacts, jumping from a building, or a headline that included the specific suicide method. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is known as the “Werther effect”.
The factors in a story that are associated with a decreased rate of suicide include: negative judgments about the deceased, individual murder-suicide, low-lethality methods (cutting), and gruesome methods (railway deaths). This is known as the “Papageno effect”.📈 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This information, while unsettling, is important in informing the media of its role in portraying suicide, if there should be a role at all. 🤔
Never before have I been to a conference where there was such diversity but also such an interesting and intelligent group as this past weekend at the inaugural Yoga in Healthcare Conference. .
From the likes of Duncan Selbie, CEO of Public Health England, to members of Parliament, Lords, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Neuroscientists, Teachers (all of which may also be yoga teachers too) as well as so many yoga teachers and yoga therapists. The quality of the attendees was incredible, the wealth of knowledge between everyone and the desire to come together to drive change focused on mending a broken system. The calibre of speakers was so high. My notebook is full with scribbles and so much information to digest. So many ideas and thoughts to share once it's all been digested.
The most amazing work from @minded_yoga@minded_institute@ourmala and so many more to make it all happen ✨🙏 .
Today we had a #BlackHistoryMonth event at church. @repkarenbass was kind enough to come and engage with the community about some of the issues. I asked her about joining the congressional #CrohnsAndColitisCaucus to help keep the issues plaguing our community in the congressional agenda. My question, I guess inspired @jaxonhoneycutt , who stood up and asked what the congresswoman what she was doing to help kids who have parents with chronic conditions. She replied that she didn’t have an agenda for that, but he could help her by making suggestions. When he got back to his seat he asked, “Can I write her a letter like I did for @senatorboxer ?” I told him yes. He asked if I would deliver it on my next trip to DC. I told him I would. •
It’s important for us as patients to engage our children, teaching them ways they can fight back against the conditions that afflict us, but impact their lives greatly.
Thank you to Congresswoman Bass for engaging with he community, but also making my son comfortable enough to ask a question and encourage engagement and advocacy. ✨

When your woman asks you if you have “life insurance” when your ass is hanging off a 50 foot ledge. #probablynotworthit
Lexipol is a private institution that writes policy for police, fire, and correctional agencies in 35 states. What does the staff at Lexipol look like?
What social, political, and economic framework guides their research & policy? #policy#research#privatization#police#qtna#framework
I'll be speaking tomorrow... U have the day off...come & support Us like we'd support you.
Reproductive Justice...can't be Just US "Birth Equity: The assurance of the conditions of optimal births for all people with a willingness to address racial and social inequalities in a sustained effort"-Joia Crear Perry MD
This shouldnt be a radical idea...
With the growing rates of Infant and Maternal mortality, frequent overuse of Medical Interventions leading to ceserean births for medical provider convenience and Hospital finance...there is an unravelling of the security in optimal birthing for all people...
Layer race on that
Layer access to health insurance
Layer conflicts in economic and social support in prenatal care and postpartum care.
Then spread this all liberally on the backs of Community Birthworkers, Black Birthworkers, Birthworkers leading with heart in the tradition of caregiving...but do not ensure the safety and respect or equity of this work... $510 is not securing anything, it is a thin rubberband fastened around the edge of a sharp wire fence...people pushing on both sides to hold things up and to break through. Seeing eachother & reaching through narrowed spaces but not going anywhere fast until it all just falls down and everyone is hurt.
Show up and ask them for reinforcement!
We are not responsible for this mess!
The system isn't being accountable for violence it wreaks.
If hospitals, charge nurses, mEdwives, OBGYN's who act as surgeons primarily, and insurance reimbursement variance were taken to task... I could show up to support my families with love softening their movement through this transition space emotionally & physically making sure that they reminisce on this event for the celebration & not that I was there to protect them from harm... My work is about loving, about kindness, about caring, its mindful & in the practice of trusting self...but all the black families, queer families, families that are new NewYorkers are looking for protection from the very places that they are told to trust.

In the era of free trials — which often end in automatic enrollment and billing — forgetting to cancel comes at a cost. But Mastercard’s latest policy aims to protect consumers against those annoying recurring charges that too often catch customers by surprise.
The new policy is meant to “increase transparency and ensure an outstanding experience for cardholders,” Mastercard says. *
