Went to visit the Watts Chapel(designed and decorated by Mary Watts and local villagers) at the weekend - great if you like or want to learn more about the Arts and Crafts movement. We also saw an exhibition by Celia Lewis, local Surrey watercolourist and printmaker and illustrator...really good exhibition
I have posted this house before, but it is one of my ultimate favourites in Hobart! So, again, “The Elms” 1916. An arts and crafts style mansion designed by Bernard Walker. #artsandcrafts#artsandcraftsmovement#hobart
Some of my favourite pictures of the cast members in #victorianhouseofartsandcrafts
Here's a little bit of background about each of them.. Rod Hughes #bladesmith and #MetalWorker - #Surrey
Official profile: Rod is an #historic bladesmith who specialises in recreating #weapons, particularly from the #ironAge, #Roman, #Viking, and #Medieval through to the #ArtsandCraftsMovement. He works with most #metals, #woods, #leather and #bone, and the majority of his #commissions come from #museums and private collectors. Rod is passionate about #authenticity, spending a lot of time #researching specific #artefacts and experimenting with materials and period techniques. He’s also a bit of a property developer, specialising in restoring Victorian houses to their original state.
Fun fact from me: Rod is ex army and can go days and day without sleep or food when he is focused on something that matters to him. He also has a softer side and sleeps with his teddy bear.
Ilsa Parry Product Designer / University Lecturer - Liverpool
Official profile: Award-winning Design consultant Ilsa has been a visiting lecturer at 18 different institutions around the UK. Her previous clients include Heals, Unilever and Sony. Specialising in all things creative with a digital focus, Ilsa designs objects and imagery for a range of contexts, from the industrial to the sculptural, and runs an independent giftware brand. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Product Design at the University of Lincoln.
Fun fact from me: Ilsa plays caixa (snare drum) in a samba reggae drumming band and travels all over the world with people of every nationality to perform at carnivals and festivals. She loves to dress up (except when its forced upon her) see more in relation to this in episode 3... Bryony Knox Silversmith / Blacksmith/ Enameller / Jewellery - Edinburgh
Official profile: London-born Bryony and busy mum of two spent her childhood in Kenya. Her father’s desire to work abroad has meant that she has lived and visited many far flung corners of the globe. The animals, birds and tales from these countries still provide inspiration for her work today and she is equally happy crafting delicate pieces of
BEAUTY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP || “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful” is my favourite William Morris quote and guide for a conscious home || Morris believed in beauty, craftsmanship, and equality. As per the quote in the picture, he also believed that art and beautiful things should be for everyone. He was a pioneer in the English Arts and Crafts movement and I believe his thoughts on mass production and consumption as well as workers’ rights are as valid today, especially for anyone trying to consume in a more conscious way || An exhibition about Morris is currently on at Millesgården in Stockholm, and I would also recommend the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, London 🇬🇧
Oh wow, thank you so much to everyone who’s bought a Thistle Hare today!🐰 He’s practically been leaping out of my shop✨💙✨ And a heads up if you’ve had your eyes on this print, or want to gift it for Christmas - as this is a small edition of just 50 prints, I only have a handfull left😘

While I’m fiddling around trying to find a way to actually print this repeat (it slides in the press if I put it on top of the paper, like you would a stamp - any ideas?!), here’s a single-block print 😊 I aimed to make a block that would work on it’s own as well as part of a repeat, and I’m rather happy with the results 😊
