Did get myself out of the house and into the studio/gallery of @bemykeeper for a special freebie/try out Life Drawing class, and I am so glad I did! It was so good to be around other arty people for a couple of hours and to be doing something out of my comfort zone. Not to mention learning lots of clever things that will ultimately make my art work even better! Plus I got this gorgeouse ring to keep for myself, hand made by @bemykeeper, it's too big for my fingers but I dont even care because those colors are just yum!! Thankyou so much for an awesome morning, cant wait to come back next term. Oh and if you haven't checked out @bemykeeper 's work do it now coz shes awesome sauce!! #artist#classes#lifedrawing#learning#newskills#technique#mixedmediaartist#ring#porcelain#silver#handmade#ooak#outofmyhermithole
#tb to the one of the altars i built last fall for dia de los muertos. It was a year long effort. I wanted to reimagine some of the elements you typically find on "traditional" altars.
It took me an year to finalize the design on the porcelain "Marigold" vase that sits at the center, the ones flanking it were some of my test vases. I made a mole glaze to represent the mole offering on my altar, i used on the lips of my marigold vases, detailed on the second pic it ran down the matte black glaze looking like the chile oil that settles on top of mole.
The porcelain maize candle holders are slab built from dried maize my Tia and Grandpa grew in Nipomo, made to replace the Catholic saints ones, since i dont follow that belief system but i do believe in the sacredness of maize. Each one was glazed with a different ash made from chile negro (top right, second row left and bottom), chile rojo (second row right), and white sage (top left), again elements sacred to myself.
My altars also features a servilleta my late maternal abuela embroidered; my brother's print to represent the (un)known revolutionary women; a Zapatista [email protected] for all those lost in their revolutionary struggle; and of course copies of prints by
José Guadalupe Posada and Leopoldo Méndez, two artists whose arte have rooted my work.
Going to be a small pitcher for my mom. Still a lot of improvement has to be made on my taller forms, but I’m getting there!
Anyone see the shirt? 👀 I always wear a Bob Ross shirt on Mondays- makes them a little easier. “No mistakes, just happy accidents!” Will post more soon!
this blue baby came out runnier than expected, but i love it 💙 this is @sid_james_henderson fish guts recipe without the copper carbonate, i was expecting it to be darker but i’m also really liking the baby blue i ended up with!
Just sold this beauty of @shannongarson as a grandmothers gift for her grandson - so much love for people gifting original art to the next generation! I have two more in this series available will post them next. #porcelain#shannongarson#ceramicart
